Rockies extend Nationals losing streak to 11 games

Michael Toglia and Jordan Beck hit solo homers and German Marquez gave up six hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings to help the Colorado Rockies beat Washington, 3-1, on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila), extending the Nationals’ losing streak to 11 games.
The Rockies have won four straight games for the first time this season.
Toglia’s home run off starter Mitchell Parker (4-8) made it 1-0 in the sixth and Orlando Arcia led off the seventh with a triple and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Ritter to make it 2-0.
CJ Abrams drew a two-out walk in the seventh and scored on James Wood’s 19th double of the season.
Seth Halvorsen pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts for his fifth save of the season.
The start of the game was delayed nearly two hours because of inclement weather.
Red Sox 3, Mariners 1
In Seattle, Trevor Story hit a two-run home run and Garrett Crochet pitched six innings of one-run ball as the Boston Red Sox beat the Seattle Mariners.
Story went below the strike zone to get a hold of a sinker from Mariners starter Luis Castillo (4-5) in the fourth inning and deposited it beyond the wall in left-center field to break a 1-1 tie.
The Red Sox took two of three from the Mariners.
Boston went in front 1-0 in the second inning on a solo shot by rookie Marcelo Mayer, but the Mariners evened the score in the bottom half of the frame when Crochet (7-4) skipped a wild pitch past home plate and Randy Arozarena scored standing up from third base.
The left-hander was otherwise excellent, recording eight strikeouts while issuing no walks. He gave up six hits. Right-handed reliever Greg Weissert pitched the ninth to earn his third save, following a scoreless eighth inning from usual closer Aroldis Chapman, who retired the top of the Mariners’ lineup in order.
Royals 6, Rangers 3
In Texas, Maikel Garcia homered and drove in four runs, helping the Kansas City Royals beat the Texas Rangers.
Garcia capped Kansas City’s four-run third inning with a three-run drive for his career-best eighth homer. He also tripled in Bobby Witt Jr. In the eighth.
Garcia’s three hits matched a season high, and his four rbis equaled a career best.
The Royals have taken the first two in their three-game set at Texas following an 0-6 homestand that matched their longest losing streak of the season.
Kris Bubic (6-4) earned his first win since May 19. He allowed nine hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings, throwing a season-high 101 pitches.
Carlos Estevez pitched a perfect ninth inning for his AL-best 20th save.
Patrick Corbin (4-6) allowed four runs over five innings for the Rangers, who have dropped two straight following a four-game win streak.
Texas opened a 2-0 lead in the first on Wyatt Langford’s RBI double and Adolis García’s run-scoring single. It closed 4-3 in the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Josh Jung and Jake Burger.
Sam Haggerty had three hits for the Rangers, matching a career high.
Texas played its second consecutive game without infielder Josh Smith, who is sidelined with a minor hamstring issue.
