Lawyer shares what to do if man trains woman in school and she refuses to marry him
A lawyer has shared what the law says could be done if a woman promises to marry a man and later refuses to do so.
According to the lawyer, a man is not completely helpless if a woman who promised to marry him later breaks his heart.
In a post she made on Instagram, the lady known as Celebrity Lawyer spoke about men who train women in school with the expectation of ending up as married couples.
She said that in a situation where a woman refuses to marry a man who trained her in school, the man could go to court.
Her words: “Imagine training a girl through school because she promised to marry you, only for her to say ‘thank you’ and marry someone else. Is that love or a lawsuit?”
She said in law, there is what is called “breach of promise to marry” and noted that such promise can be used in court to seek compensation.
She said: “In law, there is something called ‘breach of promise to marry.” Although breach of promise to marry is not a criminal offence, it is a civil wrong. And where there is a right, there is a remedy. You have a cause of action known as breach of promise to marry. Sue her for that breach of promise to marry. And guess what? You will be compensated.
That your money that you spent in training her in school, the court will order that she pays you back that money. If you are able to furnish the court with evidence of that promise that she made to you and the recept of you paying your school fees, you will get your money back.”
