How God saved me from kidnappers – Rivers Speaker Amaewhule

The Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, on Sunday recalled how God spared his life from the hands of kidnappers who attempted to kill him.

Ameawhule narrated a harrowing experience in 2008 when he narrowly escaped death after being kidnapped.

Speaking during the celebration of his 52nd birthday at the Anglican Church, Eliozu, the Speaker expressed profound gratitude to God for his numerous blessings, guidance and preservation over the years.

He said: “You know, when God does things for you, it’s important to appreciate Him so that He will do more.

“Two years ago, I turned 50. I was in the UK making plans to celebrate my golden jubilee with my wife and son when I got the sad news of the passing of my elder sister. That cancelled every plan at hand. Last year, I turned 51, but I could not also celebrate.”

Amaewhule explained that his decision to celebrate his 52nd birthday in church was deliberate and not a coincidence.

“I planned to be in the house of God to thank Him. It’s not just about marking another birthday; it’s about acknowledging that many people planned to take my life, but God said, he is my son, he will not die.

“Some of you were here in 2008 when a preacher was preaching ‘Disrupt! Disrupt! Disrupt!’. I didn’t know the people who came to kidnap me were already in this church. After service, they followed me home, tied up my security man and abducted me.

“I was in the forest for five days and five nights, with thorns under my feet and a broken skull. They moved me from one part of the forest to another, feeding me with biscuits while I bled. Today, I am alive, healthy, and 52 years old. This is enough reason to thank God,” he added.
