EPL: Chelsea take decision on sacking Maresca after defeats to Bayern, Brighton
Chelsea insist that Enzo Maresca’s position as their manager remains safe, despite back-to-back defeats against Bayern Munich and Brighton.
The Blues’ hierarchy are not panicking with only six weeks into the new campaign.
After successive league defeats to Manchester United then Brighton, Maresca came under criticism from fans, who accused him of reacting negatively to red cards.
Senior officials at Chelsea have noted the team has lost only five times in the last six months and had a player sent off in four of those matches.
Maresca has also had to deal with an injury crisis, with Cole Palmer and Liam Delap among a long list of those sidelined.
Champions League football remains a priority for Chelsea this season along with respectable runs in the cup competitions they are involved in.
This week, Chelsea will welcome Jose Mourinho’s Benfica in the Champions League, before hosting Arne Slot’s Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.
