CHE 1-0 BEN: Three Outstanding Players For Chelsea in The First Half of The Champions League Match
Chelsea went into the break with a narrow 1-0 advantage over Benfica in their Champions League group-stage encounter at Stamford Bridge. The opening 45 minutes were lively, filled with attacking intent, defensive resilience, and plenty of drama.
The breakthrough came in the 18th minute in unfortunate fashion for Benfica. Richard Rios, under pressure from a Chelsea cross, bundled the ball into his own net to gift the home side the lead. Despite the stroke of luck, Chelsea showed confidence throughout the half, enjoying the majority of possession at 64%.
Facundo Buonanotte came close to extending the lead when he unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box, only to be denied by Anatoliy Trubin. Tyrique George also threatened with a strike inside the box, though his effort was saved comfortably by the Benfica goalkeeper. Alejandro Garnacho, meanwhile, was a constant menace down the flank, testing the visiting defence with his pace and dribbling.
Benfica had chances of their own, with Dodi Lukebakio and Vangelis Pavlidis both squandering opportunities to equalise. Robert Sanchez was alert between the posts for Chelsea, pulling off a superb reflex save early on to keep his side ahead.
The half ended with Chelsea firmly in control, though Benfica’s moments of danger ensured the game remained finely balanced heading into the second period.
Three Outstanding Chelsea Players in the First Half
Robert Sanchez – The goalkeeper was sharp and decisive, making a stunning reflex save from Lukebakio and commanding his area well. His composure gave Chelsea a strong defensive foundation.
Alejandro Garnacho – Constantly stretching Benfica’s defence with his runs and creativity, Garnacho was central to Chelsea’s attacking play. His direct approach caused problems throughout the half.
Facundo Buonanotte – Operating just behind the forwards, he was lively and creative, nearly scoring with a powerful shot and linking play effectively in the final third.
