7 things you didn’t know your Android phone could do
Your Android phone is packed with a lot more features than you might think.
While most of us are familiar with the basic functions, there are some hidden gems that can make your device even more powerful and convenient.
Whether you’re looking to boost your productivity, personalize your phone, or just discover something new, here are seven features you probably didn’t know your Android phone could do.
1. Screen recording (No third-party Apps needed)
Many Android phones, especially newer models, come with a built-in screen recording feature. You can easily record your screen to capture gameplay, tutorials, or just save something important without needing to download any extra apps.
How to Use: Swipe down to open the Quick Settings menu, look for the “Screen Record” icon, and tap it. Select whether to include sound or your microphone, and you’re all set.
2. Use your phone as a wireless mouse
You can use your Android phone as a wireless mouse or keyboard for your computer. This comes in handy when you need to control your PC or laptop from a distance.
How to Use: Download an app like “Remote Mouse” from the Google Play Store, and follow the instructions to link your phone to your computer via Wi-Fi.
3. Hidden developer options
Android has a hidden menu known as Developer Options, where you can access advanced settings to improve performance or tweak various features.
How to Enable: Go to Settings > About phone > tap Build number 7 times. Once activated, go to Settings > Developer options to access settings like USB debugging, animation speed adjustments, and more.
4. Split screen mode
You can multitask by using two apps at the same time with split-screen mode. This is great for tasks like watching a video while browsing the web or messaging.
How to Use: Open the recent apps screen, tap the app’s icon at the top, and select Split screen. Then choose the second app you want to use.
5. Battery saver features
Android has a variety of power-saving features that can extend your phone’s battery life. One feature, “Adaptive Battery,” limits the background activities of apps you rarely use.
How to Use: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery saver or Adaptive battery to manage your phone’s power.
6. Turn off app notifications quickly
You can easily mute or disable notifications from apps without opening them individually. This is useful when you’re getting bombarded by too many alerts.
How to Use: Swipe down your notification shade, press and hold on the notification you want to mute, and select Silent or Turn off notifications.
7. Gestures for quick actions
Android offers a variety of gesture controls that make navigation and performing tasks more efficient. For instance, you can swipe to navigate, take screenshots, or launch apps with specific gestures.
How to Use: Go to Settings > System > Gestures to customize actions like swiping for screenshots, flipping to mute, or using two taps for the camera.
