Tinubu’s Villa remarks shows Presidency behind ADC crisis – Group

A support group of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), known as the Grassroots Mobilization Network (GMN), has said that comments made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a meeting with coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, suggests that the presidency is behind the party’s travails.

In the statement signed by its Secretary, Idris Bala Musa, the group addressed the President’s observations regarding the ongoing leadership issues within the ADC.

During the meeting with coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Tinubu had alleged that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar “wanted to privatize the ADC, but the owners said no,” while also urging Nigerians to respect court orders and the rule of law.

The GMN emphasised that the ADC is “a duly registered political party owned by millions of Nigerians across the 36 states and the FCT.” It stressed that the party’s leadership at all levels emerged “through processes consistent with the ADC Constitution, the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines, and the 1999 Constitution as amended.”

The group expressed full agreement with the President’s call for obedience to court orders and the rule of law, noting that the ADC has always operated within the bounds of legality. “It is precisely because the ADC respects the rule of law that we rejected contrived crises and politically sponsored impostors deployed to destabilize the opposition parties,” the statement read.

The support group further highlighted the importance of democratic principles, stating that “democracy thrives on plurality, robust debate, and respect for the choices of party members.”

GMN reaffirmed that “the ADC remains one united family under its legitimate national leadership” and declared that “no amount of propaganda, sponsored crisis, or external interference will stop us from organizing, mobilizing, and offering Nigerians a credible alternative.”

The statement urged Nigerians, the judiciary, civil society, the media, and the international community to take note of developments affecting opposition parties and to continue upholding democratic values and the rule of law.

The group concluded by reiterating its commitment to internal democracy and the broader goal of providing Nigerians with genuine political alternatives.
