A tragic incident has cast a shadow over Easter celebrations in Cross River State, as a young man, Michael Obeten, lost his life while participating in a Passion of Christ drama in Ugep.
Obeten, said to be a devoted member of Holy Cross Catholic Parish Ugep, was portraying Jesus Christ in a re-enactment of the crucifixion when the fatal incident occurred.

Community sources disclosed on Monday that a locally fabricated cannon, used to simulate thunder during the performance, malfunctioned and discharged debris that struck him on the head.
Eyewitnesses said the impact rendered him unconscious, triggering immediate rescue efforts.
