5 Signs That You Have Contracted HIV Unknowingly
HIV can sometimes develop quietly in the body, with symptoms that are easy to mistake for other illnesses. One of the early signs is persistent flu-like symptoms, such as fever, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes, which may appear within weeks after infection. These are part of the body’s initial immune response.
Another sign is unexplained weight loss. If you’re losing weight without changing your diet or activity level, it could mean your immune system is struggling. Constant fatigue is also common, as the body works harder to fight infections, leaving you feeling drained even after rest.
Frequent infections, such as recurring colds, pneumonia, or skin infections, may also point to a weakened immune system. Lastly, night sweats waking up drenched even when it’s cool can be a red flag.
These symptoms alone don’t confirm HIV, as they can be caused by other conditions. The only sure way to know is through testing.
Early detection is key because starting treatment early helps manage the virus effectively and prevents serious complications. Listening to your body and getting tested regularly is the safest approach.
